Butchering and Order Process

Generally, we only butcher our beef animals in the fall every year. Because we only process one time a year, our beef is not available year-round. Customers can order anytime throughout the year, but the order will not be completed and delivered until October – December.

Our beef comes vacuum sealed and frozen. Shipping costs are the responsibility of the customer. Shipping costs will be collected prior to shipping. Delivery options are:

  1. Pick up in Deer Lodge Montana
  2. Meet BHR personnel where they might be traveling
  3. Ship with a reputable shipper to your place of choice.

A $50 deposit is required to reserve your order.

Our beef comes in 1/2, or whole orders. We also sell burger boxes that come in 10lb increments.  Customers have the option to custom butcher their beef order if they order 1/2 or a whole.

Grassfed & Finished Beef

The most important thing to keep in mind is that each animal is different, therefore each order will vary in weight, quantities of each cut, and therefore final price.

The amount of freezer space you will need to store 1/2 beef is roughly 5 cubic feet. A standard freezer above a refrigerator is generally 4 cubic feet.

Here is a general idea of what you can expect to receive in a 1/2 order of beef.

  • 5 – 10 Stew Meat
  • 2 – 4 Soup Bones
  • 50 – 75lbs Ground Beef (in 1lb packages)

Heritage Breed Pork

The most important thing to keep in mind is that each animal is different, therefore each order will vary in weight, quantities of each cut, and therefore final price.

Our heritage breed pork is available a couple of times a year. We sell ½ or whole pigs. Customers have the option to custom butcher their pork if they order a whole.

Here is a general idea of what you can expect to receive in a whole pig order. By halving the cuts, you will get an idea of what comes in a ½ pig order.

Example of Whole Pig – Approx. 130 pounds

  • 25 – 35 lbs Ground Pork / Sausage (in 1lb packages)
  • 15 – 20 lbs Bacon (in 1lb packages)
  • 6 – 8 lbs Cottage Bacon (in 1lb packages)
  • 2 Hams (30lbs total)
  • 4 Sirloin Chops
  • 1 Spare Rib (about 4lbs)
  • 25 Pork Chops
  • 6 – 8 Shoulder / Blade Steaks
  • 2 Shoulder Roasts
  • 1 Loin Roast
